Zesty Cheese Bread:
1 Pkg. Dry Yeast
1/4 Cup Warm Water
2 TB. Sugar
1 Tsp. Salt
1/4 Tsp. Baking Soda
1 Cup Sour Cream
1 Lg. Egg
2-1/3 Cup Flour
1 Cup Grated Cheese (Cheddar works best)
1/2 Tsp. Freshly Ground Pepper
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and add 1 Tsp. sugar. Set aside for 6 minutes. In another bowl, blend remaining sugar, salt, baking soda, sour cream, egg and 1-1/2 cups of the flour. Mix with an electric mixer for 30 seconds on low speed. Turn mixer to high speed and mix for another 2 minutes. With a wooden spoon, stir in the rest of the flour, cheese and pepper. Spoon into 2-greased loaf pans and allow to rise for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Bake for 40 minutes. Remove loaves and allow to cool on a wire rack.
