Even In warm weather, buttercream icings will have body and stability when made with TBK Icing Shortening. Store bought all-purpose shortening doesn't have the same stabilizers, so your cake icing will break down and appear grainy. TBK High Ratio Icing Shortening is the true brand of high ratio shortening. Here's a great recipe:

Buttercream Icing:

1 Lb. TBK Icing Shortening

2 Lbs. Powdered Sugar

3 TB. Meringue Powder

1/2 Cup Water (Variable)

1 Tsp. Clear Butter Flavor

1 Tsp. Clear Vanilla

Mix on high speed with electric mixer for 8 minutes or until fluffy.

Ingredients: Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Soybean and Palm Oils), Mono-diglyceridis and Polysorbate 60

I have to say, this shortening has made a BIG difference in my buttercream. It does not leave a grease taste or anything when you use it. The price is great also.

I started using this high ratio shortening in place of the "Sweetex" brand I used to use. I love this shortening because it gives my icing that "perfect" consistency! The quality is outstanding and the price is great! I highly recommend this product because it is becoming more difficult to find REAL shorting with the proper amount of fat needed to complete traditional recipes.
